Comfortable and convenient lab testing for children

When your child isn't feeling well, we know how important it is to get fast, accurate test results. At UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals, we offer a wide range of routine and specialized pediatric lab tests at our hospitals and other locations across the Bay Area. Each year, we perform millions of tests to give doctors and families the answers they need.

Our staff is highly skilled in working with babies and children. Our phlebotomists (technicians who draw blood) use the gentlest techniques possible and minimize the amount of blood drawn.

UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals also offer highly specialized lab tests for children with cancer and for those undergoing a transplant.

Immunogenetics and HLA testing for children

When a child needs an organ or stem cell transplant, finding the right donor match is critical. We provide state-of-the-art human leukocyte antigen (HLA) testing. This immune system analysis matches patients with compatible donors and monitors treatment outcomes.

HLA testing is used for:

  • Organ, stem cell and bone marrow transplants

  • Platelet transfusions

  • Evaluation for certain genetic immune conditions

HLA lab license and accreditation

As a licensed California State Clinical Histocompatibility Laboratory, we have provided the highest standard of molecular immunogenetics analysis since 1996.

We are also accredited by the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics and the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act.
