About me

Dr. Nicolas Hatamiya is a primary care sports medicine doctor who provides comprehensive care for patients of all ages and strives to help them achieve their goals and embrace healthy lifestyles. He specializes in musculoskeletal ultrasound, preventive medicine and exercise as medicine.

In research, Hatamiya's interests include wearable technologies, point-of-care ultrasound, youth sports safety and musculoskeletal medical education. He has also conducted research in biomechanics, exercise physiology and sports performance.

On the playing field, Hatamiya is currently the co-medical director of the Oakland Roots professional soccer team. He previously served as a team physician for the UCLA Bruins, as well as an assistant team physician for the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Dodgers. Throughout his career, he has also provided care to local high schools and colleges throughout California.

Hatamiya is program director of the UCSF Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship program. He is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American Academy of Family Physicians and Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. In 2020, he received a grant from the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine for a local humanitarian service project.

Hatamiya earned his medical degree at Western University of Health Sciences. He completed a residency in family medicine at Stanford Health Care, where he served as chief resident and completed a faculty development track. He completed a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine as well as a faculty development fellowship in UCSF’s Department of Family and Community Medicine. He earned a bachelor’s degree in integrative biology at UC Berkeley.
