Our motion analysis and sports performance services
Young athletes receive comprehensive motion analysis from skilled physical therapists specializing in movement training and injury prevention.
Motion analysis can reveal subtle differences in your child’s movement that can be difficult to see during a traditional physical exam. We use advanced technology to measure your child’s motion, force, pressures and muscle activation patterns while they run, cut and jump.
Our team turns the data into personalized treatment plans and training programs that support safe, effective movement.
Children and adolescents may benefit from a visit to our motion analysis lab if they:
- Are recovering from an injury or surgery
- Have pain or concerns about how they move during an activity
- Want to improve their running ability or athletic performance
Why choose us for motion analysis?
Our pediatric specialists work exclusively with children and young adults, so we understand the unique needs of growing athletes, including how growth and development can affect movement and sports injuries.
Our team collaborates to help your child move safely, recover from injuries and reach their athletic goals. Their care team may include:
- Physical therapists specializing in sports
- Certified athletic trainers
- Sports medicine doctors
- Orthopedic surgeons
- Biomechanists
- Certified strength and conditioning specialists
- Sports nutritionists
Return-to-sport testing
We use motion analysis to help your child safely return to their activities after an injury or surgery. During our return-to-sport testing, we video your child with high-speed cameras while they run, cut and jump.
We also use force plates to measure how much force your child puts on each leg when they jump and land. This assessment helps us identify force imbalances that may need more rehabilitation.
Our physical therapists use this data to determine whether your child can safely return to their activities or needs additional rehabilitation to address movement concerns.
Running analysis
Our specialists help athletes who experience pain while running or want to improve their running efficiency. Using 2D cameras, we capture video while your child runs on a treadmill. We use the data to identify movement patterns that may contribute to pain or injury and then recommend strategies to improve your child’s running biomechanics.
What to expect
A motion analysis physical therapist completes the evaluation, which takes one hour.
After your child’s motion analysis, we use the data to help guide their next steps. This may include rehabilitation or an individual training program.
